“I can’t believe Jacob gave us this!”
“Yes, now could you slow down?!”
“Why would I want to do that?!” He let out a whoop as he popped a wheelie on the bike, the girl shrieking and clutching tighter to his seemingly human waist.
“Maybe because otherwise you get the couch for the next millennia!”
“Aw…you’re such a wet blanket Katie…”


“Urgh,” he said as he sniffed. “The things I do for you woman…”
Kate smiled as she lifted her head from the jaguar. “But I like your eyes…”
Garret glared at her before sucking the jaguar dry, he wondered if Edward could hear his mental grumbling from a thousand miles away.


“You know, fires just aren’t the same without marshmallows…”
Kate cocked her head at her mate quizzically. “What’s a marshmallow?”
Garret nearly fell over. “You mean to tell me that something that has been around since 2000 BC has never been consumed by you? And I thought I was sheltered as a child…”


“Garret, what were you like in your past life?”
He turned his head towards her. “That’s an out-of-the-blue question.”
“Well, all I know is that you were born sometime around the American Revolution.”
“Ah, well that would be my human date of birth. I was about two when I heard the shot heard ‘round the world.”
She blinked. “The what?”
He looked at her in disbelief. “The shot heard ‘round the world? The first shot of the American Revolution? The Battle of Concord?” He sighed at her look of confusion. “Never mind. I, unlike half of our vegetarian brethren, was frozen at the dear old age of 35.”
“You don’t look a day past twenty. How can you be 35?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “I blame it on the venom. I wasn’t exactly in tip top shape when I was found. Rather mangled to tell the truth.”
“What did you do?”
“I was…um…wrestling a hippo.”


“You know,” Kate said, “I think we might owe Esme a house…”
“Love, I think we owe her an island.”


“So you were reborn in Egypt?”
“Yup,” he replied form behind his paper. “Around the First Cataract.”
“Is that where you had marshmallows?”
“Yup, course they were nothing like hat they are now. How’d you know they were created in Egypt?”
“Google,” she replied.
“What’s Google?”
“And you called me sheltered for not knowing what a marshmallow is.”


“Kate!”
“Nessie!”
The little girl frowned at her. “I am not a monster! My name is Carlie!”
Garret burst out laughing.


“Ha! Eleazar didn’t know what Google is either!”
“Yes, but Eleazar is old as dirt.”
“I heard that!”


After seeing the Cullen’s collection, he wasn’t surprised that the Denali clan had one. But he was surprised by how much of it was Kate’s. “I thought you didn’t like bikes…”
“Who said I didn’t like them? I just don’t like the back.” She winked at him.
